I told my mother, who is becoming increasingly interested in that “complicated” HeartConnection, the story of my one kidney. After all, what is the story of being born with 1 kidney?

Persuasion: ‘liquid is dangerous’

I began my story. Kidneys process fluid, liquid, water, provide drainage to the bladder. The biological sense of having only 1 kidney: for me, apparently, ‘having to process too much water/liquid’ was dangerous. By having 1 kidney, my body wants to say with this -in a biological sense- ‘if I have to process too much fluid, I will die.’ So to prevent that, there is only 1 kidney, so that too much fluid can never be processed at once. A natural barrier, actually: small bits at a time. I also recognize this in my life, but my eight-year-old daughter also resonates with this story.

So the question came up: have you, or anyone in your family line, experienced a drowning, has anyone in the family drowned, or anything else involving liquid (flood, gas, ice, IV) that has created a belief somewhere that has to do with “water/liquid is dangerous”?

No. Not that I knew.

Puzzle pieces

Interesting puzzle pieces that were about to fall into place were there, in abundance:

• I drink very little, I just don’t get it down. So I also pee very little. My daughter exactly the same – where her friends have to pee 3 times on the way, Saar calmly keeps it dry for a whole day.
• I hardly sweat
• I really hate sweating, and especially that clinging of others, bah!
• clamminess and wet/clammy things drive me crazy (during the HC weekend I was confronted with this again: my quilt in the gypsy caravan where we slept was CLAM, yuck!)
• I refuse to camp in spring or fall; way too humid, that condensation on the tent, yikes!
• I have wanted to live above New Amsterdam level for as long as I can remember

Yet I am also very fond of water:

• I’ve been sleeping in a waterbed for years
• I find the sauna and hot pools extremely relaxing
• I am called I Mara (sea) and my daughter Saar (river)
• we have a cottage by the water
• I enjoy diving very much (interestingly: to my great sorrow, I am no longer allowed to dive because my ear canals are too narrow so I cannot “clear” properly…)

Actor ‘liquid’

A big actor for me in the “fluid story” were the traumatic narcoses with a “cap” – gas, also fluid! – which I had several times from the age of 4 because my one ureter was too narrow – I was constantly having bladder infections, because fluid was staying in my bladder – and had to be stretched … again, holding back fluid … Those bladder infections were “dangerous” to my kidney. In addition to also being motherly alone in the hospital a few times then, and not being allowed to cry – but that’s another blog – the ureter kept constricting and I had horrible nightmares from that cap every time.

The denouement

During the walk with my mother, I asked again if the theme of drowning or seeing drowning or other fluid traumas occurred in my family. And suddenly she cried, “Yes! I watched my neighbor’s little boy float in the water, drowned, when I was little, in the water behind our house!!! And from then on we were not allowed to go into that water, watch out, watch out!

Goosebumps. And also flabbergasted. How well my body knows all this, the story is understood. My mother, too, was amazed.

That night I wake up every so often with a tremendously dry mouth: DORST DORST DORST DORST! I pour glasses one after another in a few hours. Even my daughter (a water rat by the way) wants “a really big glass of water mommy, the biggest one you have!” right away that afternoon.

The story is complete.

My body goes into dissolution. I solved the fluid story and also for my daughter.

Kidney parenchyma I translate as the working part of the kidneys, orange on the figure below with fluid TPM as the theme.

Renal parenchyma is the part of the kidney that filters blood through nephrons. The nephrons in the kidneys work very cleverly: they filter waste products from the blood and recycle the important substances your body needs again.

Liquid TPM

• Almost drowned
• Having seen someone drown
• Any liquid such as alcohol, milk, water, soda, and so on.
• Infusion (think surgeries, birth induced)
• Semen
• Urine
• Tampasta
• Vaccination fluid
• Water, ice, snow
• Oil
• Gas
• Money (when you melt gold and silver it becomes liquid)
• Etc.

Two-phase

• After TPM, there is cell removal. With prolonged conflict activity shriveling of the kidney. Possible increase in blood pressure at this stage, click here for high blood pressure.
• In recovery phase cell increase, more cells are added. Humans can handle more liquid than before. You are stronger, so to speak, to deal with a water disaster. Possibly at the outcast creation of new kidneys so that the body can handle more fluid in the event of a possible disaster in the future. Regularly also called renal cysts.
